Meet The Newest Member Of The Family

Meet Faith's closest cousin in age, Ethney Diane Mangum. Daughter of Bryan and Vicki Mangum. She was born on December 27th (four months apart) and is just the cutest/sweetest little thing. She has a wonderful big brother Ryker who just adores her and is already way over protective of his little sister. We are so happy for the Mangum's and wanted to share some pictures with everyone.

Faith will have so many friends and family to play with, her soon to be little buddy Ryker has already been making plans to go visit our horse, Bullet, on the farm when we return from Taiwan and Faith's dad can't wait to see her in her little cowgirl boots.

Everyones invited!

March Weather In Taipei, TW

For those who are interested I added a fun link to the side on our blog page where you can check the weather in Taipei this time of year and will be able to see what it is to be like while we are over there. You can see what the temp's are like on average over the year as well. Kind of fun!

Shower Decorations

Nicely done! It was so fun!

Lindsay's Family Shower

Thank you so much Workman's & Openshaw's. This baby shower was so beautifully decorated with Chinese decor and dolls. It was so beautifully done and all the food was Chinese as well. I LOVED IT!

It was so much fun to see all the family and especially all those who drove for miles to share in our joy. You are all such wonderful and loving people. I am so lucky to have married into such a wonderful family and now little Faith will be able to know and learn from all of you amazing people as well.

It truly meant the world to me to see so many family members come from all over. It touched my heart! We received so many gifts and I want you to all know that we are deeply grateful to you all. You have all helped us so much, words can not express.

When we bring Faith home in a few weeks Lindsay and I will have to take a few road trips and come visit you all so you can meet her. She is one adorable little angel for sure and we can not wait to share her with you all.

Thank you so much for being such wonderful examples to me in my life and for welcoming me to all the family parties and family reunions. It is going to be so fun to have Faith join in all the parties this year. You are all a FUN group of people and I look forward to all the family reunions every year, KEEP IT UP!

Thank you so much for everything!

I love all of you beautiful Workman and Openshaw sisters. Thank you for all your hard work and for taking care of Lindsay and I. I can always count on family.

Church & Neighberhood Shower

Thank you to all the beautiful women I work with in the church for being so happy and excited for Lindsay and I. We really appreciate all the time and effort you put into organizing and having a baby shower for our little girl Faith. We are so lucky to live in a beautiful neighborhood with such wonderful friends. You have all been so welcoming and we really enjoy our ward and those we live bye. We have found such a great place to start our family and we have truly developed some wonderful friendships and we hope that we will be able to get to know more of you even better through out the coming years. You are all so kind, so much fun and so sincere. Thank you for everything!

The food was delicious and I was truly amazed at how many people came to celebrate. I was overwhelmed by your kindness. We really live in a wonderful city with such down to earth, amazing people.

Thank you with all of my heart. I am so grateful!

I love you all so very much and Faith is so very lucky to be coming into a family with such closeness and love. You are all so dear to me. I love you all so much. Thank you for sharing the joy of our new baby girl with us. I can not wait to bring her home in a few weeks and share her with you all. She has many people to look up to and follow. You are true angels to me.

Thanks for spoiling my baby girl. Thank you to all those who made all the hand made quilts. They are so beautiful and Faith will love to cuddle up in them. She will be so warm and cozy.

HUGS & KISSES!

Friend Shower

We are so blessed to know so many wonderful people and we are so grateful for their support. It was so much fun to share our adoption news and story with everyone who came to celebrate. Thank you to all my friends and childhood neighbors. You are all so wonderful and mean so much to me.

"THANK YOU" to my awesome and wonderful friend Jill Tippetts and my mother for having this wonderful shower for me and Faith. It turned out so nice and I really appreciate everything. IT WAS SO FUN!

Happy Birthday Too Me!

IT'S STILL A GO!!!!!

Laura called us @ 9:20 PM last night and and told us that the documents were in the mail on Friday afternoon to Taiwan. She said they are due to arrive at St. Lucy's on Monday, February 26th @ 6 PM and they would be taking the documents in the next day (Tuesday) to submit everything for Faith's visa. Everything has and is going to work out and Laura said she would e-mail our itinerary today for March 12th (the day we go to St. Lucy's to pick up Faith). It will have the time we meet Sally in the morning, our flight info to Tainan, and our schedule for the day. SO EXCITING!

We will be heading to Bountiful on March 8th @ 7:30 AM to meet our parents so they can take us to the SLC airport to fly out.

On March 17th @ 6 PM (right after we return home with Faith) our agency, Families for Children, is having a Chinese New Year Celebration. We are so excited for this and plan to take Faith to meet all of her friends. She will be able to meet our counselor Laura and her fun family, our social worker, Suzanne Stout, who did our home study for the adoption; Sally (our translator) will be in SLC for the celebration so we will see her again. Faith will meet other families who have adopted through FFC and other little children who also lived at St. Lucy’s for a time. A few of them have just returned home this year and it will be fun to reunite them.

What a wonderful time in our lives. We are so blessed! This is the best birthday gift anyone could ask for!

Slight Problem!

Last night Laura called me with some bad news. It seems there has been an issue trying to track down the birth mother or her family over the last few weeks to have them go into St. Lucy's and sign some Power of Attorney documents for Faith's visa. Because of this St. Lucy's called Laura and requested that Lindsay and I sign some more Power of Attorney documents, which gives someone from St. Lucy's the authority to sign on behalf of the birth mother (instead of having the birth mother do it herself). If they get our documents in time then St. Lucy's can just finish processing everything and sign all documents themselves. We were told our papers had to reach St. Lucy's bye February 26th.

We first found out about this small issue last Thursday (Feb 15th). Laura had called me at my office and informed me of the problem and then e-mailed me the documents to be signed and notarized that day (at the time she said not to worry and we could do it in time). I told her I would take care of it all that day and then drive them to her that afternoon. I signed all documents, our receptionist notarize everything and then I drove down to Highland and dropped them off to Laura. She then took them into the Utah State office in downtown Salt Lake the next morning and asked them to push the documents through that day and rush them (they had to be stamped and sealed by the state). They did so, thank goodness, and then she over nighted everything to the San Fransisco Taiwan office for their seal. The lady who works at that office said she would slide things through as well to move them quickly and let us know when it would be sent to Taiwan. Everything was going well but on Tuesday of this week the lady at the San Fransisco office called Laura and said their was something wrong with the documents. She was going to overnight them back to Laura, then Laura would have them corrected and then sent back to her. The documents were to have reached Laura yesterday and they didn't. Laura checked the package with her tracking number and found out they were on their way to Taiwan. The lady at the San Fransisco office sent them the WRONG WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well because I had made double, Laura can take the those into the State again this morning, have them rush it and overnight it back to San Fransisco with everything the way they wanted it. We hope at this point that they get there tomorrow and they push it all through again (because it was their fault we lost a day) and then they will be over nighted to Taiwan on Friday afternoon. This puts them in Taiwan on Feb 27th because Taiwan is a day ahead of us, and this is if everything gets pushed through and out on time. Laura will call Sally in Taiwan on Monday (when they all return from celebrating their Chinese New Year) and see if she can talk to St. Lucy's and work things out to still be OK. If it's not OK that they received them a day late then our trip will be postponed probably until March 21st because our translator (Sally) will be visiting Salt Lake City the week after we are planning to pick up Faith at this time. So we would have to reschedule for when she is back in Taiwan.

CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please, please, please everyone pray for us this week/weekend in hopes that our papers flow through the system well and reach them in time to process everything. WE HAVE TO PICK UP FAITH ON MARCH 12th. IT'S GOING TO KILL ME IF NOT!!!!!!!!!!

Keep the faith!

Love you all!

Kisses In The Wind

KISSES IN THE WIND...
I hold you in my heart and touch you in my dreams
You are here each day with me, at least that is how it seems.
I know you wonder where we are.....What's taking us so long,
But remember child, I love you so and God will keep you strong.
Now go outside and feel the breeze and let it touch your skin.....
Because tonight, just as always, I blow you kisses in the wind.
May God Hold you in his hand until I can be with you,
I promise you, my darling, I'm doing all that I can do.
Very soon, you'll have a family for real, not just pretend.
But for tonight, just as always, I blow you kisses in the wind.
May God wrap you in His arms and hold you very tight.
And let the angels bring the kisses that I send to you each night.

This poem is prefect! This is exactly how we feel as we wait to hold our precious baby girl.

Things Are Going Well

Last Saturday I had my first baby shower for Faith. As the planning began and invitations went out I was really excited and could not wait to get together with my friends and family and share my journey with them. I look forward to any chance I get to talk about Faith. There was one shower held Saturday morning from 10AM to Noon for my friends and another held that same day from 3PM until 5PM for my family(Bott's & Jackman's). I woke bright and early and headed to my shower @ 9:30 AM (say goodbye to sleeping in). On my way to the friend shower I witnessed a car accident right in front of me. Both vehicles which collided happened to have little kids in them and when I saw them jumping from their cars and the mother's holding their little ones it almost brought me to tears. I experienced some serious fear as I continued to drive to my shower, thinking about Faith and how precious she is. Her life is in my hands and it scares me to death to think of anything bad happening to her (and the fact that the poor little thing is going to be under my care, ha-ha!). Every mother out there knows what this is like and more and more these days those feelings keep arising. I am going to be so paranoid and drive her crazy, I'm sure of it. Not only did this effect me in a big way but the last few weeks when ever I talk about her with someone or try and thank someone for something they have done for us I get all emotional and teary eyed. I may not be carrying this little one inside of me but I seem to be experiencing all the same feelings and emotions any mother would while carrying her little one and preparing for that day to bring her home (whether it be Taiwan or the hospital). My emotions are all out of wack!

Well I made it to the shower and all went well. The day was absolutely beautiful and I saw so many friends and family. Everyone has been so generous and I am overwhelmed with emotions. I expected things to be a little different though thinking that the baby showers would be exciting, make time pass quickly, make me feel closer to her and everything would be HAPPY! Don't get me wrong it was wonderful and my appreciation goes out to all of those who helped with the showers and all of those who came to give their love, but I longed for her badly. I wanted her to be there with me. I found my thoughts drifting the whole time imagining her with us. It was hard, it made me sad. Everything at times feels so surreal. I can not believe we are bringing our baby home! I open gifts and it just seems so strange, we have a baby!

I had a wonderful time at both the friend shower and the family shower. Faith is so very spoiled already. I do not know how to express my gratitude to everyone, words can not say enough.

As we prepare to bring her home in 3 weeks from today all is going well and falling into place. I feel my Heavenly Fathers love around me all the time and my heart is filled with such gratitude. The blessings never stop. He is truly amazing and knows us all personally so well. The power of prayer is real, I feel his love in my life daily and I am so thankful!

We have our flights reserved (flying from SLC to LA then from LA to Taiwan and it will be the same coming home), passports ready to go (we have had these for the last 5 months or so), all paperwork for Faith's US Visa has been completed and will be mailed to Taiwan next week so they can be preparing it for our appointment at the American Institute of Taiwan on March 13th (the day after picking her up at St. Lucy's). The crib arrived this morning so this next week (when Lindsay returns from working out of town, FINALLY) we will be able to finish up all the furniture for her nursery and put the piles of gifts aware and in their places. I will get everything organized and finally take some pictures of our baby girls room (SO ADORABLE!). I am so excited to have it all done and ready (experiencing the nesting period).

I have another baby shower this evening for the girls in my ward/church and then one more on Saturday @ 2 PM for Lindsay's family (Workman's, Openshaw's & Briggs). Talk about SPOILED! I hope to have pictures posted from all baby showers and her nursery in the next few weeks.

The week before travel we will focus on getting everything packed and all the letters and gifts written and wrapped to take with us to thank all those who have helped us along the way and have taken such good care of our baby girl.

We are to receive a travel packet from our agency as well with the schedule for Monday, March 13th when we pick up Faith. We are to meet Sally (translator) and she will take us to St. Lucy's and spend the day with us as we tour the facility, meet all the wonderful angels who work there, have lunch and see where our baby girl has spent the fist six months of her life. Also in the travel packet will be tour information and taxi cards that get us from here to there. Lindsay and I have decided to fly into Taipei (arriving on their Friday night). Get some good rest (yeah right). And then we have chosen to fly to Tainan on Saturday afternoon to spend two nights and two days in the city where Faith was born and really experience some of the true culture of Taiwan. Our Counselor Laura is thrilled that we have made this decision and she thinks we will have the time of our lives. We will stay in the Tainan hotel and take a few tours there and do some night market shopping. Laura said we can buy the most beautiful material and clothing here that you can not find in Taipei and that we should do most of our shopping here and what ever we don't find we can get later in Taipei because we won't find anything like what we should see here the rest of the trip. I am looking forward to this in a big way (although it's a lot of traveling in two days but worth it). Once we pick up Faith on Monday we then fly back to Taipei that afternoon for the rest of our trip. We will return to the good o'l USA March 16th late in the evening.

We hope all continues to go well and things go smoothly the next three weeks so that we will be boarding that plane on March 8th. My heart and my eye's have truly been opened to some amazing things over the last 9 months as we have prepared for this. Heavenly Father is so wise.

LOVE YOU ALL!

Amazing Phone Call

I just had the most wonderful phone conversation with Laura (Families for Children Counselor). We spoke for an hour and a half all about preparation for the trip, what to see and do, how to care for baby while there, bonding strategies, what Faith's personality is like, Faith's birth mom and of course HOW ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE FAITH IS! I didn't want it to end. All the while I was typing as fast as I could to make sure I took note of everything! Of course I am at work at the time so she knew that it was cutting into work time and didn't want to keep me but I would have sat on the phone for hours. She had so much good information for us. It has made me even more so excited to go!

Through the adoption process I have tried not to hound and bother her to much with questions, phone calls and e-mails. We meet Laura at her home the first month into the adoption process @ 7 PM and we didn't get home until 2 AM. There was so much to go over, learn, stories to here. Laura is one of the most amazing women I will ever know. She has so much knowledge and love for Taiwan and St. Lucy's. It was a blast!
Other then that when she called about the referral and our travel date we missed both calls and she left voice mails (I felt bad). I have sent maybe four e-mails this whole time with questions or small comments but we have never had a phone call or spoke in person so it was due time for sure.

Well I wanted to quickly type down the information I was given before I forget it all. Here it goes, it is going to be quiet lengthy but SO GOOD!

We first discussed some of the questions I e-mailed her a few days ago in regards to some documents we are filling out for Faith's visa (legal stuff we take with us when we travel). We went through all of that and she explained that a Travel packet with itinerary would be coming for the day we go to St. Lucy's to pick up Faith. We would also get a list of things to do and some taxi cards, which make it much easier to get from here to there. We just jump in the taxi, hand them the card and they take us where we need to go. Some things are with in walking distance of the hotel we will be staying at so that will be nice. She want over the hotel and told me what it would be like and what to expect.

We covered the important travel stuff and paperwork. Then she started to tell me about Faith. Laura was just over at St. Lucy's a few weeks ago to help them move into their new building. She said Faith was sleeping for a couple of the hours she was there but then she was up and at it. Laura played with her and held her, took pictures of course and even said SHE HAS SOME VIDEO FOR US!!!!!!!!!! She said she has the best personality ever! She is very lively, curious, into things already, loves people and action. Laura said she is "very active". She said I will defiantly have my hands full (as if her daddy Lindsay is not enough, he-he!). She also said Faith is growing fast and very mature for her age. She is very alert and loves to laugh. She is a lot of fun and lovey. Most of the babies are OK on their own and being left alone. At St. Lucy's there are not enough care givers for one on one with babies. More like one care giver to three babies or more so when feeding they are left in crib or when playing they are on the floor with other babies. There is not a lot of holding or cuddling. They are independent for sure. She said that most babies need space and want to be on their own or don't cuddle much because they are not use to it but Faith will snuggle and cuddle with you. She is very loving. She said when Faith is done feeding she will just throw the bottle out of her crib (to funny!). When she wants something or sees something she goes after it (like her mommy). She said she has beautiful skin, perfect little round face and is small. She loves her thick hair, Laura said it is really curly so be prepared. She recommended some good shampoo she uses on her own little girl from St. Lucy's. She said I will need something to tame it a bit (CUTE!).

Laura said that the care givers told her that Faith's birth mother was in just before they moved to sign all legal documents and make it all final. Laura said that all mothers are required to come back one more time to sign everything and at that time can say goodbye to baby (this happens when the court process is final and there is no turning back, no one from the birth family can come back and take the baby or change their minds). Her birth mom came to visit and Sally and the care givers told Laura she was extremely beautiful. She was so lovely but that she was very short. Laura said although they are all short in Taiwan she was considered to be short to them even (she is very young but none the less short). They said that Faith defiantly looks just like her mother and they could see where Faith got her appearance (this is so comforting to know, some day I can share this with Faith and let her know she looked like her mom in every way). Lindsay and I hope that we might receive something from the birth mom when we go to pick up Faith to share with her some day like a picture of her. If not then we understand this is the Lords way/plan.

Laura told me that her birth mom held her and said good-bye and made the comment that Faith was "so cute".

Faith seems to be a favorite at St. Lucy's and everyone loves and adores her. Laura is so excited for us to experience the new center. She says it is beautiful, of course not like the old because of all the precious memories there and stories but it is an amazing new place with color and so many wonderful things. She said we will love it and she is excited for us to experience it and then come back and share it with her. She said the first family just went and Sally (who works for FFC and lives in Taiwan) said it was such an amazing experience to watch the family as they walked through the new center, how impressed they were. They were able to take their baby outside in the courtyard and sit on the grass and play with her. The experience was so need she said it brought Sally to tears.

Laura went over what Faith is eating now, how to bond with baby when we get her, what to expect from baby. She tried to help me and tell me all she has learned about Faith and that when we walk the streets of the city and get out she has a feeling Faith will love it and be totally into the sites and sounds around her. She will probably be happy.

Laura told me of the places I need to see and things I need to do. She thinks that because we are going down a few days early we should fly to Tainan a day or two early and stay the night. She said you will see and experience things you will never experience just staying in Taipei the whole time. She said all the tours and major site seeing you will do in Taipei is wonderful but to truly experience the culture, the people and the way they really live we should stay in Tainan for a night. She said it is SO beautiful and it is her favorite part of Taiwan. She knows of two places we must go to, a wonderful dumpling place close to the nice hotel we will stay in. She said the night market and watching the kids is absolutely wonderful and her favorite shopping is there. She said you will find the most beautiful materials for babies and adults there. She told me to do most of my shopping there and then what we can't find we can look for when back in Taipei. She said this is where the first people who discovered Taiwan arrived, it is close to the coast and we could take a drive out to the water. She said the museums are amazing and have items from the first settlers and boats made. This is a must! We are FOR SURE going to do this. She has gotten me SO EXCITED and SO READY! I can not wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is going to forward me all the tour info in Tainan and have Sally write us taxi cards and set us up in the hotel there. We can really experience the people and sites of where Faith's birth mom lives. Laura said it would be neat to come back and share it with the families and maybe more families would be more daring to try and do this. Not many families stay the night there, they worry and just do the same thing each time. This would be something different and fun. I CAN'T WAIT!

She did say to expect a lot of staring from the people there. She said they always look and point and whisper when she walks around and because I am taller and have red hair they will be very curious (to funny). They are very kind to Americans though.

I wish I could express/type everything we discussed word for word. I was so thrilled talking to her and preparing. She had nothing but good to say.

While we are visiting Taiwan Laura would like Lindsay to take a good look at the court yard and think about some idea's as to what they can build there for the lady's to sit in and get shade while babies play in the grass. Lindsay and his best friend Rory will be going over in the future (to Taiwan again) to do a service project and help them build maybe a gazebo or benches. We are thrilled at this opportunity and hope when the time comes we can have some money saved for my and little Faith to tag along. It would be amazing to have Lindsay build something for the center in donation and to be apart of something so wonderful. We want to help them in so many ways and although we don't have the money to give them we can do service. To have this experience and pictures to share with Faith would be so neat. We hope that when Faith is older we can take her back to visit a few times to experience where she is from.

Well this is just a little bit of the neat things we talked about and of course my favorite part was when she would talk all about Faith and her personality. I can not wait to hold our baby girl, tell her I love her, her daddy loves her, her birth mom loves her, and give her the world. I CAN'T WAIT, I CAN'T WAIT!

St. Lucy's New Home

Our counselor Laura recently traveled to Taiwan to help the St. Lucy Center move into their new building. She took some pictures of the little ones in their new home. We spotted some pictures of our ADORABLE (wig mama) baby girl and wanted to share them. Just incase you can't tell she's the cutie pie in the yellow sweeter (hard to see her face under that mop). If you save the photo's you can also inlarge and get a better view of her. We should receive our update photo's soon as well.

Enjoy!

3rd Care Package

The following are the items we are going to send Faith this week. The last package until we pick her up in four weeks (I love the sound of that!).

We thought we would send some of the clothes we have been given by some of Faith's family and friends (there are so many wonderful people waiting to welcome Faith home, she has no idea yet just how much love is waiting for her at home).

Some of the items are for 3-6 months and she will be turning 6 months on February 27th so we figure if Faith can't wear all of them then some of the other little children can use them. St. Lucy Center is always excepting donations to help provide for the little one's whether it's clothes, food or a money donation. Every little bit helps for sure.

We also thought we send a little treat for the staff at St. Lucy Center straight from good o'l Utah (salt water taffy). It's not much but we hope they enjoy it (I had to hold Lindsay back, he wanted to break into them and have some himself).

Well, over the next week Lindsay and I will be preparing all of our final documents that we will take with us to Taiwan. The day after we pick Faith up from St. Lucy Center we have an appointment at AIT (American Institute in Taiwan) to complete our application for a U.S. Visa on behalf of our newly adopted baby girl Faith. I have learned from other's who have gone before us that this appointment will take about an hour. They then process the documents and get it all ready and we return one more time (the next day) to pay our fee and pick up her papers to bring her home.

We have a few baby showers this week and then a few more next week. We hope to have all the baby furniture all set up in 2-3 weeks and ready to go in the nursery. This will leave us a good week or so to pack and do the rest of our shopping. Everything is coming together.

Thank you everyone SO MUCH for all of your love and support and your many, many prayers on our behalf. We are so blessed to know so many wonderful people. Faith is going to be the luckiest girl in the world.

We love you all SO MUCH, THANKS AGAIN AND AGAIN! Words can not express.

Mandi

"Gotcha Day"

We FINALLY received our "gotcha day" information from Laura. This was the longest wait of my life. It seems Laura had to wait for St. Lucy's to coordinate and set appointments with the AIT office (government office in Taiwan); they called her today with the news. We will travel on March 8th (AM) and will return on March 16th (PM). We will pick up our baby girl on March 12th (Monday morning around 11 AM). This would be Sunday, March 11th at about 8 PM MST for all of those who will be waiting at home.
THE DAY HAS FINALLY ARRIVED!!!!!!!!!!!! Let the partying begin!!!!!!
We are bringing home our baby girl!!!!!!!!
